Wisdom

untitled prayer credited to the theologian Reinhold Niebuhr………..
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
Courage to change the things I can,
And wisdom to know the difference.

It is one of those days, when events between your grandchildren and their parents, cause you a lot of heartache. Good Discipline is a fine balance in learning a lesson that will serve the child as a lifelong frame work for making good decisions. Poor discipline can scar a child’s heart, mind, even body. What is said and done can erode a parent-child bond, and cause those watching to doubt the parentlng skills. A grandparent hates to see harshness, especially if the punishment is thought to be out of proportion to the misdeed. How to bridge the gap between, and not alienate the parent while protecting the child? We all want what is best – and love the child – so how do we handle it? The wisdom is in finding what to say and how to say it. I hope I acted with both courage and consideration today. It took some counsel and prayer before acting. God I love that child and want what is best for her. Some days it is just really hard being the grandparent.
